About

The 2nd Hackathon Compilation 2025 is a satellite event the prestigious ICDCIT series organized by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, DU. Odisha. The theme of 2nd edition is “Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainable Healthcare”. Sustainable healthcare is medical care that ensures the health needs of the population are met without compromising environmental, economic, or social resources for future generations.

This hackathon aimed to inspire and empower students to create innovative AI-powered solutions that that address global health challenges while minimizing environmental impact. With a focus on practical solutions, participants can win prestigious prizes and gain access to invaluable mentorship opportunities. The 2nd Hackathon will focus on five key sub-themes aimed at addressing global health challenges while minimizing environmental impact. These sub-themes encourage participants to leverage AI-powered solutions to develop innovative solutions.

Sub-Theme-1

Accessibility and Affordability

• Inequitable Access: Many people, especially in rural and underserved areas, lack access to quality healthcare services.

• High Costs: The rising cost of healthcare, including treatments, medications, and insurance, makes it difficult for individuals and families to afford necessary care.

Sub-Theme-2

Aging Population and Chronic Diseases

• Increased Demand: Aging populations lead to a surge in chronic diseases, placing a significant burden on healthcare systems.

• Complex Care Needs: Chronic conditions often require complex and long-term care, which can be challenging to manage.

• Monitoring Daily Activities: System to monitor and classify daily activities like walking, sitting, or lying down for patients with chronic illnesses, aiding in early detection of deviations from normal activity patterns.

• Fall Detection in Healthcare Environments: Human Activity Recognition system to detect falls in real-time for patients in hospitals or care homes.

Sub-Theme-3

Mental Health Crisis

• Stigma and Lack of Awareness: Mental health disorders are often stigmatized, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment.

• Insufficient Resources: Many regions lack adequate mental health professionals and facilities to meet the growing demand.

Sub-Theme-4

Healthcare Worker Shortages

• Burnout and Turnover: Healthcare workers, especially nurses and physicians, face high levels of burnout and job dissatisfaction.

• Skill Gaps: There is a growing need for healthcare professionals with specialized skills, such as geriatrics and telemedicine.

Sub-Theme-5

Public Health Emergencies

• Pandemic Preparedness: Healthcare systems need to be prepared to respond effectively to future pandemics and other public health emergencies.

• Vaccine Hesitancy: Misinformation and vaccine hesitancy can undermine public health efforts.

Target Participants: Undergraduate and postgraduate students irrespective of the discipline.
